Clinical Trials

At Ingalls Spine Center, our patients are among the first to benefit from the latest and most advanced clinical trials without traveling far from home. Here, we constantly strive to uncover new and better techniques, including the use of biologics to facilitate stronger fusions, artificial disc technology, and the development of minimally invasive techniques to reduce muscle retraction, pain and recovery time of many traditional procedures.

  • Artificial disc surgery – Experts at Ingalls Spine Center are developing new and better ways to treat degenerative disc disease using an artificial disc. Our specialists are among only a handful of orthopedic spine surgeons nationwide participating in the Flexicore artificial disc trial. Here, our team is able to restore movement and flexibility, while reducing the pain, risk and recovery time associated with disc surgery. What's more, Ingalls was the first hospital in Chicago’s South Suburbs to offer the artificial disc.
  • INFUSE™ Bone Graft/LT-CAGE™- With the exception of colds and flu, backaches send more people to the doctor than any other ailment. That's why Ingalls was the first in the area to adopt the INFUSE™ Bone Graft/LT-CAGE™ Lumbar Tapered Fusion Device to treat degenerative disc disease. This back disease affects approximately 85% of the population by the age of 50. It's a painful and debilitating disorder of the spine that happens when discs in the spine are damaged. This procedure uses a version of a naturally occurring protein to initiate bone growth in damaged areas of the spine.
