• Replacing painful and costly surgery
Ingalls offers an innovative branch of medicine
in which physicians treat diseases by
using X-rays and
other imaging techniques to "see" inside
the body
while they guide narrow tubes called catheters
through
the blood vessels and other pathways of
the body to
the site of the problem. Many of these
minimally-invasive procedures have replaced
traditional surgery because they offer
patients
treatment options that are less costly
and involve
smaller incisions, less pain and shorter
hospital stays.
• Minimally-invasive surgery
At Ingalls, we perform almost 12,000 minimally-
invasive procedures a year. That's more
than any
other hospital in the area. Two of our
most advanced
procedures are intensity modulated radiation
therapy
(IMRT) which decreases the side effects
of traditional
therapy while improving cure rates for
cancer, and
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided
laser
treatment for doctors to destroy tumors
in an
outpatient procedure without an incision.
Some
conditions we treat include: aneurysms,
blood clots,
cancer, infertility, high blood pressure,
liver disease,
blocked blood vessels and stroke.
