Complementary or alternative medicine is a category of medicine that includes a variety of treatment approaches that fall outside the realm of conventional medicine. Complementary medicine techniques can be used to improve wellness, prevent disease or treat health problems. The Ingalls Wellness Center offers a number of complementary therapies to improve patient outcomes. For more information, call 708.915.8850. These are some of the services we offer:

Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through the skin at strategic points on the body. A key component of Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. It is also used to help relieve chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

Hypnosis
Hypnosis, also referred to as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is a trance-like state in which you have heightened concentration and focus. Hypnosis is performed by a hypnotherapist and involves verbal repetition and mental images. Once under hypnosis, you feel calm and relaxed, and are more open to suggestions. Hypnosis can help you gain control over undesired behaviors and is often used for weight loss, smoking cessation or to ease stress, insomnia and phobias.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils to enhance psychological and physical well-being, including prevention of illness.

Massage
Massage involves the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance function, aid in the healing process, relieve muscular pain and induce relaxation.

Reflexology
Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet and hands that correspond to organs and systems of the body. Applying pressure to these areas can help heal the body and alleviate stress.
