Ingalls Free Autumn Health Fair

(August, 2008) Don’t miss out on all the free and low cost health screenings at Ingalls Health Awareness Fair, to be held from 9 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Family Harvest Church, 18500 – 92nd Avenue, in Tinley Park. (Enter off LaGrange at 179th Street) This valuable wellness event is being held in partnership with the Family Harvest Church.

Discounted Lipid Profile Blood Tests, along with mini-massages, breast health and prostate health information, screenings for diabetes, cardiac risk and ultrasounds for joint pain, free giveaways and much more will be offered.

“We are pleased to make services conveniently available in one place, with no appointments or insurance cards needed,” said Ingalls President & CEO Kurt Johnson. “Preventive medicine and early detection are the real emphasis of this event. While screenings at a health fair are not meant to diagnose an illness, we certainly can identify risk factors and warning signs...and provide the necessary education to do something about it. The bottom line is that the earlier we detect a health problem the more successful are the available treatments.”

Blood tests include a $25 full lipid profile (HDL, LDL, and triglycerides), an $18 chemistry profile, $8 CBC/anemia test, $25 thyroid profile, $12 hemoglobin A1c for diabetics, and a $25 prostate (PSA) blood test for men who are not enrolled in Medicare. A 12-hour fast is required to produce the most accurate lipid results.

Other valuable health and wellness activities, including information on sleep disorders, prostate cancer, stroke prevention, osteoporosis, home care, hospice resources and varicose vein treatment will be available. In addition, guests will be able to talk with a family practice physician about general health matters at the “Ask the Doctor” table.

Following the health screenings at noon is a “Lunch and Learn” a physician presentation, that will feature Family Practice specialist Dr. Rita Melgarejo-Glaab speaking on “Osteoporosis Treatment and Prevention – Maintaining Good Bone Health at any Age”. There is limited space for this program. Lunch will be provided for $2 with pre-registration by calling 1.800.221.2199.
