Chicago Machine Pro Lacrosse Team Names Carl Dilella, DO, Team Physician

(February, 2008) The Chicago Machine, Chicago’s only professional outdoor lacrosse team, announced today that Carl DiLella, D.O., will serve as the team’s head physician and orthopedic consultant for the 2008 season.

Dr. DiLella is a partner with Bone and Joint Physicians, one of the largest orthopedic surgery and sports medicine practices in the south suburbs, with offices in Oak Lawn, Flossmoor, Orland Park, and Calumet City. He is on staff at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.

Dr. DiLella specializes in sports medicine, general orthopedics and joint replacement, with special expertise in cartilage restoration as well as knee and shoulder arthroscopy.

His impressive credentials include a sports medicine fellowship at the Los Angeles Orthopedic Institute, where he performed numerous surgeries alongside nationally renowned orthopedic surgeons. His fellowship also provided him with specialty training in complex shoulder and knee arthroscopy, maximizing his skill in arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair, as well as arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction.

In addition to his sports medicine fellowship, Dr. DiLella performed a trauma fellowship in Davos, Switzerland, as part of the renowned AO/ASIF Trauma Fellowship program sponsored by Synthes. The program allows orthopedic surgeons from the United States to study in trauma centers throughout Europe. During his fellowship, he learned the most current techniques in orthopedic trauma and fracture care.

Dr. DiLella completed his medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and performed an internship and orthopedic surgery residency at St. James Olympia Fields Medical Center.

Dr. DiLella served as team physician for several high school and college sports teams during his sports medicine fellowship, including Pierce College, Antelope Valley College, and the California State University Northridge Campus.

“I’m thrilled to be named team physician for the Chicago Machine,” Dr. DiLella said. “Lacrosse is an exciting sport, and the Chicago Machine is a wonderful organization. I look forward to working with the coaches and players during what promises to be an exciting season.”
